DESCRIPTION (in English) – On Thursday, November 19, NIAF hosted “The Syrian Refugee Crisis: Effects and Responses in Italy and the US,” a public policy forum luncheon on Capitol Hill held in cooperation with the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD) and the Italian American Congressional Staff Association (IACSA). Opening remarks were made by Congressmen Bill Pascrell and David Cicilline, members of the IACD who have championed this issue. Following their remarks, Jeffrey Rathke, senior fellow and deputy director of the Europe Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), moderated a panel of experts including Ambassador Marilina Armellin, permanent observer of Italy to the Organization of American States; Jessica Ashooh, deputy director of the Middle East Strategy Task Force at the Atlantic Council; Giovanni Faleg, secretary of the Italian Democratic Party (PD) in DC and researcher at the Centre for European Policy Studies; and Matteo Garavoglia, Italy Program Fellow at Brookings Institution.
